MADC Recap from Friday Night at the Meadowlands!!

Saturday, April 1, 2023

With clear skies, a fast track and beautiful 50-degree temperature to start the night, the new MADC club pacers took center stage for three races on the card to close out March.

In the first race on the card, it was a calvary charge for the lead that found Camlachie Chrome(Cote Keim) clearing to the lead in a fast 26.3 first quarter stanza.  He was quickly quarter-moved by the post time favorite, Snoopy Snoop(Joe Lee) before the half that was clocked in 55.3!!   This brought the outer flow into the mix early and around the final turn is when Dakota Jackson moved three-wide with Trente Deo to the lead en route to his 2+ length victory.  Lee held second while Bruce’s Magic(James Slendorn), who was out a long way, hung on for third.  The mile went in 1:53.3.  The 7-year old is owned by Dakota’s brother, Zachary Jackson out of Ohio and is trained by Dakota himself!!on, also out of NJ.

The fifth race found a few early leavers and it was the post time favorite, Claytons Bettor N(James Slendorn) who was handing out the parking ticket to the other leaver, Beachy Boy Hill(Tony Beltrami).  After a 55.4 half, it looked like the closers would come knocking again but in the end, Slendorn had enough in the tank to stave off all challengers and ended up winning by a half-length.  It was Captain’s Reign(Dakota Jackson) who closed from well off the pace to finish second and Doc Semalu(Anthony Verruso) rounded out the trifecta.  The mile was timed in 1:53.3.  The 8-year old gelding is owned by Slendorn himself out of NJ and is trained by Kelvin Harrison.

In the tenth race and final MADC race of the night, the field was scratched down to nine pacers and after some early jostling for the lead, Always A Panther(Tony Beltrami) took command and carved out a sensible first half mile in 56.2.  It was at this point that Anthony Verruso pulled Firstup, first over from his fourth position on the rail and grinded his way to the lead as the field entered the stretch.  He was in an all-out battle with Meet The Creeper(Bruno Chiodo) down the entire stretch but was able to hold him off and ended up winning by just under a length.  Longshot Knox The Fox(Christopher Petrelli) got up for the show dough.  The mile went in a sizzling 1:51.4!!  Verruso was able to win the day after celebrating his 60th birthday.  The 9-year old mare is owned and trained by Symon Spicer out of NJ.

The MADC is scheduled to be back in action next Friday at the Meadowlands.  Post time is scheduled for 6:20pm.
