Saturday, November 9, 2024

High Fashion Star used an aggressive steer from Braxten Boyd to win a second straight start at The Meadowlands Friday night in the $13,000 conditioned pacing feature for fillies and mares.

The 4-year-old daughter of Huntsville-High Fashion Model was up and after Dixie Dream, who led at the quarter in a quick :27.3, and took the lead just as she reached the half while parked in :54.4 on a night when strong winds were at the horses’ backs heading to the midway point.

Boyd backed down the third fraction to :28.3, so after reaching three-quarters in 1:23.2, a final quarter of :28.2 finished off an easy 3-length jog in the park in 1:51.4. Madrid A finished second with Santafe’s Appetite third.

“I was just going to let it play out,” said Boyd. “I knew I was going to leave out of the gate but I knew there were going to be quite a few other players. Once it looked like I was going to get pushed off third I said we’ll be the ones moving, and from there on, she had it all wrapped up. She’s very good.”

High Fashion Star, a Mark Silva trainee, scored for a second straight outing as the public choice, as after winning a week ago as the 4-5 chalk, she came back and returned $4.20 as the even-money favorite this time around. She’s now won 11 of 37 career outings, good for earnings of $168,611 for owners All Star Racing Inc.

A LITTLE MORE: Scott Zeron completed a natural hat trick after taking the 11th, 12th and 13th races, respectively, to end the night atop the driver colony with three victories. The last of the three was with the Megan Scran-trained Labyad Bros S, a Swedish import who scored as the 6-5 favorite in the $18,000 conditioned trotting feature. The black gelded son of Raja Mirchi-Bedtime Song completed the mile in 1:54.4. … All-source handle on the 14-race card totaled $2,289,504. … Racing resumes Saturday at 6:20 p.m. with four Kindergarten Classic finals sitting atop the marquee for purses totaling $730,200.
