The main track is one mile with a homestretch of 990 feet. The distance from the start/finish line to the first turn is 330 feet. The width of the homestretch is 90 feet and the backstretch is 80 feet.
Quick Baron won the first pari-mutuel race on September 1, 1976.
The Meadowlands Pace purse grew to $1 Million for the first time in 1980, the year Niatross won.
The 1977 Pace carried a purse of $425,000. The winner was Bernard and Rosalind Mann’s Escort, trained and driven by Carl LeCause.
The world’s most famous trotting event, the Hambletonian, which has had a number of different homes, debuted at the Meadowlands Racetrack on August 8, 1981.
The 1981 Hambletonian winner was Shiaway St. Pat. He was driven to victory by Ray Remmen.
